When you make the decision, once and for all, to commit to making your dream a reality, it can be both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. There’s a giddiness that hits you when you realize the infinite possibilities and adventures that lay before you. But then the fear of the unknown often sets in, causing all sorts of doubts to start percolating through your mind:
- “I’ve never done this before.”
- “I have no idea what am I doing.”
- “What if it doesn’t work?”
- “What if no one takes me seriously”
- “Who am I kidding… I’m never going to be able to pull this off.”
- “What was I thinking? This is never going to work.”
And what happens all too often is that these thoughts bubble around and around in your mind until you give up in defeat before you’ve even gotten yourself out of the gate. You give up on the dream that means so much to you because your fear tells you that you can’t. But when you give up on a dream that means so much to you, you give up your power and piece of that ephemeral, undefinable something that makes you who you are.
But you know what? You’re stronger than you think you are, and you have strength enough for this – more than enough. You are capable of so much more than you think you are. You can do this. You can make it happen. The only thing between you and your wonderful, beautiful dream is your fear.
This dream of yours could make such a difference in the world if you let yourself fly with it, and what’s more — you’re the only one who can do it. It’s your dream, after all. Don’t allow your fear to keep you frozen in place – you really do have strength enough for this, and your dreams are waiting for you. All you’ve got to do is realize that YOU CAN. So start moving. Now. Today.

This is all well and good Nathalie, but how about if people keep showing up, telling you that you can;t do it? I see them as reflections of that fear, being projected to me so that I can look the other way to better feeling things. What about a feeling that you may fail and be ridiculed? I know we should keep an eye out for our goal and not give a rip about everyone else, but sometimes they are blurred by the fact that getting to where we want to be may be impossible due to difficulty, competition, you name it, people have said it and do not hesitate to point it out to you.
Maybe this is were callings come in. If you have a calling for something, not only will it keep showing up in your reality, but the universe will keep leading you toward it, in all ways imaginable. you will get a tingling feeling down your spine, an excitement in your heart, you will look forward to it, no matter what, and you will just know that one day, you will eventually get there.
I think some of us go through hell because we put it there. We get down on ourselves and create chaos when there is no reason for it. Our doubts and fears take over creating this jungle so thick we can’t even see the sunlight that should be leading us in the first place. So, it is all self-induced. The reality is that the universe is awesome, gives us unlimited opportunities (this is blasphemy to some ears, but they just do not know), and is always there for us, no matter what and we will get there one way or another, even if we created a meandering route rather than a straight one, in which others told us to give up. But to me, the latter scenario is the one not to take. The meandering route may prove to make you better at your calling, to spread the light and that is even more reason for the universe to support you, which it does anyway, but it is still all up to you!
“Don’t let someone who gave up on their dream talk you out of going after yours” ~Unknown
A lot of time, when people are telling you that something can’t be done, it’s because they couldn’t do it themselves, not because it’s inherently impossible. Nothing is impossible. If you’re getting a lot of people telling you you can’t do something, a big part of that is the vibration you’re sending out there — it’s your own fears being reflected back to you. And this is very, very common — most of us deal with these kinds of fears to one extent or another. And yes, I realize that the fear of failing and being ridiculed for it is a big one. But focusing on that fear is focusing on imminent failure, and when you do that, you pretty much guarantee that that’s how it’s going to turn out. If you’re stuck in that spiral, then play the “what if game” until you get yourself back into a better feeling place.
If you’ve got a lot of people in your life that tend to put you down for your dreams, then stop talking about your dreams when you’re around them. Keep working on them and focusing on what you want, but don’t discuss it with those people because they are just going to reinforce your own fears. Save the discussions for people who are going to encourage and inspire you.
The Universe does give you unlimited opportunities — as many as you want! If you don’t get to where you’re going by the route you had originally envisioned, that doesn’t mean you’re not going to get there by another, possibily completely unexpected route. Keep your focus clear and keep moving. Every day, do something that will move you closer to that goal. And you will get there. There’s nothing wrong with the “meandering route”. You see so much more, learn so much more, and do so much more on the way. And yes, it gives you the opportunity to become even better at your calling or passion, or whatever you want to call that — that dream that is yours and yours alone. Just keep moving forward… when something calls to your heart, you need to listen.
Fabulous, Nathalie! I find that people buy into the hype for things like having babies, shopping after Thanksgiving to get the very best deals even though you really don’t, basically you name it there is hype attached to it. I stay away from all that. I find that slow, steady and quiet wins the “race” so to speak. I have also noticed that those who talk the most do not get as far as they say. It’s all hype. They talk of going to big schools and then end up dropping out, for example, to name one of quite a few instances I have seen.
People try to manipulate their life and control it as much as they can, when just going with its flow is the best way to go. A friend of mine had three children while in grad school, when everyone doubted her success afterwards. Now, she is the most successful from them all, even those who delayed having children while in grad school to lesten their burden, but this is not really the case. I think the kids were her good luck charms, actually, and she did not abort or anything because she was in grad school. I am sure you will agree! Life should just be celebrated instead of feared so much. Everything is possible and will happen, you don’t have to sacrifice anything. I thought this would be a good thing to add here.
