As I start forth on this brand-new journey of mine, one of things I’ve decided to focus myself on is gratitude for the little things in life. When you’re tumbling headfirst into a completely new and frightening situation, it’s so easy to get caught up in the “woe is me” mindset, and getting sucked into a nasty negativity spiral that leads to apathy and depression. I’m not going to go there, and I’ve decided that the best way to avoid all of that is to focus, as much as possible, on all the good that is out there.
So despite the situation being what it is, I am grateful:
- For the fact that this is an amicable split and that my ex and I are still on good terms and that we are both doing our best to make this transition as easy as possible for all involved.
- For the fact that my kids seem to be adapting well and that I think the new place is going to work out well for them.
- For the fact that my move went as well as it did, and that the unpacking is progressing well.
Finally, I am exceedingly grateful for the fact that I am as strong as I am and that I will be able to handle this situation, no matter what.
Sometimes rough days happen. Sometimes things look bleak. Sometimes it seems like the rain will never end. And sometimes life throws more “you’ve got to be freaking kidding me” situations at you than you think you can bear.
And in these moments, it is gratitude for the seemingly little things that give us the strength to get through it all and keep going. Because when it gets right down to it, it’s all of those little things that work together to make up the big things anyway.

Oh, yes, indeed it is! Health, for example. We must always be grateful and appreciative of that, no matter what.
Tennessee Williams said “A high station in life is earned by the gallantry with which appalling experiences are survived with grace.” I remember this quote from high school and it has stuck with me, because he is so right about it. How true!
That’s a good quote — I haven’t seen that one before. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
