Today we are talking about the key to making it happen. We’re talking about the essential ingredient you need to know in order to turn any dream into reality. Now, about three days ago, I got an email from someone – this was someone in the publishing world – who wanted to know what made my book, fearLESS, stand out from other self-improvement books on the same topic.
I actually laughed when I read her question, and then I sat down to write her an answer. And, in my experience, the problem I’ve had with most self-help books is that they are all about unicorns and rainbows. They are designed to make you feel good temporarily at the expense of any long-term results or real change. They promise you the moon, and usually imply that all you have to do to get it is think positive thoughts.
Well, that’s just crap! It doesn’t work that way.

Positive thinking is great, but…
Now, I’m all for positive thinking and fostering an optimistic outlook on your dreams, and on life in general. And I’m the first person who will tell you that your mindset is the most critical element to your being able to turn your dreams into reality. Let’s face it – if you want to build a dream, optimism is critical because it will 1) inspire you to seek out solutions to problems, and 2) it will act as a buffer to cushion you when you hit the inevitable bumps in the road.
But the thing is, positive thoughts alone are not enough; if you want to get past the “thinking about it” stage with your dreams, YOU MUST ACT. You have to actually go out there and start DOING things if you ever want to see and feel and LIVE that dream of yours. You have to get it out of your head and give it some wings if you ever want to see it fly and make it happen.

Not only do they fail to provide you with the hands-on, how-do-I-do-it, concrete techniques for actually DOING anything about your dreams, they are even light on the strategies for promoting a positive mindset. Most of these books focus on anecdotal stories, but they don’t take the next step of translating any of those stories into workable solutions that other people can then use in their own lives.
… making it happen takes more than that!
And this is where fearLESS is different. At one point in the book, I mention that the two critical keys to overcoming fear are mindset and action and that you cannot expect any real change in your life without working with BOTH of them. And that’s what the book does – it provides step-by-step strategies and techniques for mastering both of these keys, so that readers can finally start getting through their fears and making real progress towards their dreams.
I spend a lot of time on my blog talking about optimism, positivity and focusing on what you want in life rather than fearing what you don’t want. But you can’t get stuck in happy-thoughts mode – in complacency and inaction. You have to take the next step and start taking those scary action steps that are necessary to move those dreams out of your head and into your physical reality.
