Today we are talking about the journey and the process and the dance of life and what the heck that all actually means. But before we get started I have a quick announcement to make and I’m so excited about this because it’s going to be so much fun! I will be doing my first ever live, in-person event-thing. It’s an informal little coffee meet-up, and it’s happening next weekend, on Sunday, September 7th in Toronto, Canada. So if you are in or near Toronto on that date, you are hereby invited to come and join us!
We will be meeting at the 7 West Café, located at 7 Charles Street West near Bloor Station, and I will be there from 2:30 in the afternoon until… I don’t know… we’ll see how it goes and how chatty everyone is feeling. So, like I said, I am so excited about this and it’s going to be so much fun, I can’t wait! If you have any questions about things I’ve talked about on the blog or in the podcast, this is your chance to ask me in person. We are going to be talking energy, Law of Attraction, mindset, dream-building, and it’s just going to be awesome. So if you’re in the area, drop in and say “hi!” I would absolutely love to meet you. Also, please be sure to check my website, under the “Events” tab or my Facebook page for the latest details… if we have to change venues or anything, I will post any updates in both of those places.
So, back to today’s topic. It was inspired by a quote I came across a while back from Barbara de Angelis and it said: “The journey between who you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life really takes place”. And I just love this quote, because I think it really gets across the importance of looking at life from the perspective of process, rather than outcome.

So what do I mean by that? I mean that we have become so obsessed with the idea of finding the purpose of life and the meaning of life, and trying to reach our goals, and get somewhere in life, that I think sometimes we actually forget to just live life. We’re so busy looking for that end result, trying to figure out what the ultimate destination is going to be and how to get there, that we’re not actually experiencing much of the journey itself. And I think that’s a problem because, the more I work with this stuff, the less I believe that there even is a specific destination; I really do think that it’s this journey, in and of itself, that is the point of it all.
Life is a process of change. You are here to live out the story of your own evolution as a person. And that’s why I think that there is no “final destination”. The evolution of a person is not a process that ever ends – how could it? If you stopped growing and learning and becoming, what would there be? There would be nothingness. Change has to happen, constantly, if there is to be life. And it’s funny because we expend so much energy fighting change – we don’t like change; there’s a stretching there, and it’s uncomfortable and we don’t like to be uncomfortable. But at the same time, we’re never really satisfied with being where we are… we want to be there already, not here. We want to have reached that goal and be living the dream already, and we have no patience for the in-between stage of getting there.
So with all that internal confusion, that’s where all the resistance kicks in, and that’s what tends to get us stuck in places we don’t really want to be. We’re wedged between wanting something and not wanting to deal with the discomfort of the process of getting it. But it’s that process, that changing, itself that is your story, that’s where you are, that’s where your dance of life happens. Life happens in the in-between, in the process of change between who we are now and who we are becoming. It’s in this zone of uncertainty between where we are and where we want to be that we really start to understand ourselves and what’s truly important to us.
And it’s in that understanding that we find our purpose and create our meaning. So embrace the change. Flow with the process. And enjoy the dance.

Very nice, Nathalie, thank you! Of course, we must appreciate where we are to get to where we want to be. I have noticed that many people complain about the journey and want to be there already. I just wish they would be more grateful along the way.
Have fun at the meet-up. Make it a plan to come to NYC!
A lot of it is impatience… it’s hard to know where you want to be, but not be there yet. But that’s where you have to watch the alignment issues — when your focus shifts away from the vision and back to fretting about the gap between here and there, that’s when you know your alignment is slipping. Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.
The coffee meet-up should be lots of fun, and I’m really looking forward to it. I will add NYC to my list of cities I’d like to visit… I’ve never been there, and I do have a lot of readers there. Lots of readers in London and L.A., too. Now I just have to figure out how to finance all that travelling! lol 🙂
